A delicious “food first” commonly overlooked remedy for constipation…

  • Roasted beets

How to prepare them?

  • Clean your beets, peel them, and chop into 1 inch pieces
  • Season with cinnamon, pink himalayan salt and olive oil
  • Roast for 35 minutes at 400

Why are beets a friend to your digestive tract?

  • Beets are high in betaine.

Betaine helps break down foods in your stomach, ups your output of digestive enzymes, and helps your liver provide bile to break down fats.

  • Beets are high in both soluble and insoluble fiber. This combo adds bulk to your stool and draws water into your colon, both of which allow for voluminous and easy bowel movements.
  • Beets are high in inulin, a natural “prebiotic”. Inulin is a valuable fuel to your microbiome.

What can go wrong with beets?

  • If you experience excess gassiness with beets, this is likely a sign that you have an undiagnosed case of SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth).
  • Beets can color both your urine and your stool! If you notice a slightly pinkish/reddish tint to your urine or stool after consuming beets, fear not. 😉
